By the Waters of Babylon

Written by Robert Schenkkan
Directed by Richard Seyd

Now through December 7

On one of those hot and humid afternoons in Austin, Texas, which almost always presage a coming storm, two strangers, both exiles in their own way, have an encounter in a backyard gone to seed from neglect.

Our two fallen angels, Arturo — a Cuban novelist turned immigrant gardener, and Catherine — a withdrawn widow with a painful past, struggle to find each other, and themselves, in this overgrown, weed-filled yard. Over the course of several hours they exchange pleasantries and tell stories. Laugh. Argue politics and music. Make mojitos, get a little drunk. Fight and make up. And hesitantly, clumsily, they begin to dance…

Don’t miss this unexpected romance by Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan (The Kentucky Cycle), starring Weeds’ Demian Bichir and Obie Award Winner Shannon Cochran at the Geffen Playhouse from October 28 through December 7.

Please note, this show contains nudity, adult content and strobe lighting effects.

First Act 55 Minutes, Second Act 55 Minutes.  There will be One 15 Minute Intermission.
