LOS ANGELES, CA – November 5, 2003 – Underscoring its continuing commitment to educational outreach by providing affordable, world-class theater – Geffen Playhouse proudly presents the nationally acclaimed children’s music production – Ralph’s World. A special engagement from Geffen’s family theater series, “The Saturday Scene,” Ralph’s World will be performed on the Geffen stage for one exciting and entertaining show on Saturday, November 22, from 11 a.m. to noon. Admission is $6 for adults and $2 for children. Following the performance, kids and their families are invited to the Geffen courtyard for refreshments and treats. Featuring contemporary and hip performances of children’s music with a rock-n-roll edge, Ralph’s World is the creation of celebrated children’s musician and songwriter, Ralph Covert. In addition to numerous other awards, Covert has been Amazon.com’s number one children’s artist for the past year. Covert’s Ralph’s World has received accolades from local and national press. Billboard Magazine hailed the Ralph’s World DVD "one of the finest kids' audio releases of this or any year" and Family Fun Magazine recently called Covert “one of our finest children’s musicians.”

The Geffen’s 2003-2004 season continues with the Los Angeles premiere of Sandra Tsing Loh’s Sugar Plum Fairy (November 11-December 21, 2003), a thoroughly original holiday treat for adults and children (ages 12 and up). Loh wrote and stars in this one-woman show about an awkward 12-year old girl who dreams of starring in her dance school’s production of The Nutcracker. This wildly imaginative and wonderfully offbeat story recalls the cruel and competitive, yet amazing experience of childhood. Next in the season is Los Angeles playwright Bryan Davidson’s upcoming production of War Music (January 13-February 22, 2004), three musically-driven playlets based upon dramatic events in the lives of composers Frank Bridge, Anton Webern, and Olivier Messiaen. The fourth production of the Geffen’s season is The Underpants (March 9-April 18, 2004), comic genius Steve Martin’s hilarious adaptation of Carl Sternheim’s 1910 German farce Die Hose. The season closes with a new play, directed by Gil Cates, to be announced at a later date.
